The holiday meal has been eaten, gifts have been opened and Volume 2, Season 5 of Stranger Things hasn’t dropped on Netflix yet.
Does anyone want to play a game? Cue the groans and objections. Nope, not cards or a board game, though they have their merits. But these holiday games are sure to bring pure ridiculous, embarrassing and goofy fun.
Whether you’re looking to quell the awkward silence of a gathering with family and friends you haven’t seen in a while or just want to play some reindeer games at an ugly sweater party, we’ve rounded up some family-friendly games from TikTok that will unleash your competitive side — and some belly laughs.
Ready, get set, go!
🎀 Bow scoop
Players scoop as many bows as they can into a bowl with a spatula while their eyes are covered. Whoever has the most bows in their bowl after time is up wins!
🎣 Candy cane fishing
Practice your squats before this one! Players safely tie some string around their waist on one end and tie a candy cane to the other end. Stick some candy canes in a bucket using dry rice or beans to prop them up. Without using your hands, hook the candy cane to another candy cane stuck in the bucket. You can do a relay race, or whoever gets the most candy canes after time is up wins!
☃️ Do you want to build a snowman?
Spread out regular-sized marshmallows on a table. Players put a plastic cup on each hand to act as reindeer hooves. Each player has to build three snowmen, three marshmallows high. The player who builds all three snowmen first is the winner!
🎁 Gift grab
Get your listening ears ready for this one! Set up half the number of gifts or any object as the number of players. So if you have 10 players, set up five items in the middle. Players line up on two sides of a table or in an open area. One nonplayer is the announcer and needs to call out things like “shoulders” or “feet” for players to keep their hands on. When the announcer decides to yell “gift” (or the name of the item in the center), players have to grab an item as quickly as possible.
🎄Ornament switcharoo
You’ll need two bowls and two different colors of ornaments for this one. Each player can either be timed, or you can set a timer. A player must simultaneously switch the different-colored ornaments into the opposite bowl. Whoever has the most ornaments switched at the end of a timer, or who completes the entire switcheroo with the least time, wins!
🕯️ Santa’s breath
Line up a row of tea light candles safely on a table or counter. Light the candles, and each player has to say a holiday phrase to try and blow as many candles out as possible. The person who blows out the most candles while speaking the phrase wins!
🥳 Snowball race
Line up a row of cups upside down and place a pom-pom or small marshmallow on top. Using only a party noisemaker, be the first one to knock all of the “snowballs” off the cups.
🧻 The toilet paper roll
Place lines of painter’s tape on a table horizontally, spacing them apart about the width of a toilet paper roll so they look like a ladder. Place gift bows between what looks like the rungs in the “ladder” of tape. Players roll toilet paper parallel to the line of different gift bows. When the toilet paper stops, take the bow it stops next to and match it with a corresponding bow on top of a prize box. If your toilet paper lands next to a spot missing a bow, you don’t get a prize.
